I have had a number of requests to repost the speaks that became the book "A New Pair of Glasses". I originally posted this series in 2017, after 2600 Sober Cast episodes I am a bit better at audio cleanup, so I have gone back through and reworked the files a bit to improve the quality. Part 1 of 6.

Chuck C. was born in 1902, and got sober in A.A. in January 1946.

In these 1975 recordings of Chuck C. at the Pala Mesa Men's Retreat, Chuck shares his experience, strength and hope about recovering from alcoholism. He tells how he recovered from being a "tongue-chewing, babbling idiot drunk".

The Pala Mesa Men's Retreat had 64 AA men attending, these recording were made by one of these men on a small tape recorder, and the recording quality isnt fantastic but it is listenable.

This series of talks was eventually transcribed into the book "A New Pair Of Glass" The book is still available if you would like a copy https://scast.us/npog

Bob A was sober 44 years at the time he passed away, his experience in recovery led him to an approach to the steps based in dealing with ego and self and carrying the message of twelve step recovery.

Over the years he led many retreats and workshops. This is part 5 of a 5 part series hosted in Culver City. There is some Q and A at the end of his speak, the questions were impossible to hear, I cut out the dead air and you hear answers but not questions. This ends abruptly.

There is a group called Prime Time in Los Angeles California that bases their (in-person and zoom) meetings around his approach to the steps. https://primetimeisnow.com

The Little Red Book

In 1942, Ed W. began teaching the “Twelve Step Study” classes that helped the Minneapolis Group achieve their 75% recovery rate. Then in 1946, he and Barry C. (The first sober A.A. in the state) published the lectures used for these classes as a book. Initially titled The Twelve Steps, it was affectionately nicknamed “The little red book.”
